General information
What is the E-invoicing Checklist?
The E-invoicing Checklist is a self-assessment. It helps organisations like yours to get a clear view what to look after when sending and receiving (e-)invoices. The E-invoicing Checklist provides you with 16 relevant topics concerning (e-)invoicing and (e-)billing.
Who is responsible for the E-invoicing Checklist?
The E-invoicing Checklist is an initiative of the E-invoicing Trust Foundation. The E-invoicing Trust Foundation is an accredited organisation with a focus on permanent adoption of e-invoicing in the EU. Apart from the E-invoicing Checklist, it also facilitates the E-invoicing Platform (Formerly known as EEI Platform), the E-invoicing Trend Map (coming soon) and E-invoicing Toolbox (coming soon too).
Why should I use the E-invoicing Checklist?
The E-invoicing Checklist allows you to avoid pitfalls and offers dozens of practical tips for e-invoicing in everyday use. Moreover, the E-invoicing Checklist explains all topics briefly an clearly, so you can easily prepare yourself for e-billing, or – if you have already started with e-invoicing – to do a check-up.
What is the target group of the E-invoicing Checklist?
The E-invoicing Checklist is intended for any organisation that is (planning) to send or receive e-invoices: single contractors, micro SME’s, corporates, financial software providers, banks, Payment Service Providers, Billing Service Providers et cetera.
How much do I pay to get my E-invoicing Checklist?
Nothing, the E-invoicing Checklist is free of charge. You can even compose your own personal checklist.

Checklist
What sources were used to create the E-invoicing Checklist?
The E-Invoicing Trust Foundation (see underneath) collected and received hundreds of resources from the organisations and initiatives that play a vital role in this topic:
- European Commission – directives on VAT, e-invoicing, e-signatures and services
- DG Taxud:
- CEN/ISSS eINV –the well respected e-invoicing compliance guidelines
- www.einvoicingplatform.com – hundreds of relevant posts on the use and best practices on e-invoicing
- www.twitter.com/einvoicing – thousands of tweets, including tweets that display individual opinions on sending or receiveing e-invoices and e-bills.
- SlideShare – providing us with hundreds of documents, presentations and reports on e-invoicing
What is the difference between a checklist, a trust mark and a certificate?
The E-invoicing Checklist is intended as an internal self-assessment tool for anyone who wants to get started with e-invoicing. A trustmark is an external self-regulation marketing tool for organisations that want to generate ROI and build trust towards business partners. A certificate takes a trustmark to the next level, as the general principles in the trustmark manifest are expanded and independently audited.
What is the difference between the E-invoicing Checklist and the E-invoicing Toolbox?
Coming soon. The E-invoicing Toolbox is a set with handy tools including the E-invoicing Checklisting that helps you with customer/supplier onboarding.
Can I add the E-invoicing Checklist logo to my website, once I’ve assessed myself?
Unfortunately not. The E-invoicing Checklist is a self test, a self-assessment. Within the framework of this checklist, we cannot check whether and how improvements are implemented. We can therefore not allow anyone to use this logo, besides ourselves. Sorry.
But, is there a logo that I can use to promote myself on e-invoicing?
Currently not. We are thinking of an e-invoicing trustmark, a self-regulation initiative. The E-invoicing Trust Foundation is accredited to issue such trustmarks. The general idea is that you’re allowed (even obliged) to display the logo once you’ve agreed and signed the E-invoicing Trustmark Manifesto and paid the invoice.
Getting started
How can I get my hands on the E-invoicing Checklist?
Well, on this website, you can select some popular pre-selections. You can also choose to go ‘a la carte’ and select only the chapters that are relevant to you. These are combined into your own personal E-invoicing Checklist, which is then sent to you as a PDF document by e-mail.
What questions does the E-invoicing Checklist give answers to?
The E-invoicing Checklist currently provides answers to questions like:
- Current EU E-invoicing basics: “How does the IRS currently approach e-invoicing?”

How do I use the E-invoicing Checklist?
Study your personal E-invoicing Checklist topic after topic. Per topic, read all checklist-items chronologically. The checklist items are in orange. Many of the checklist items have an explanation. And many of the chapters have a ‘more information’ badge at the end of each section.
Per checklist-item you can rate whether your organisation does (checkmark) or does not meet (x-mark) this requirement or whether this requirement does not apply to your organisation (indent). This way, you immediately know to which requirement your organisation can/should devote attention.
You can now get to work to improve the aspects of your invoicing process, collections process or even your purchase-to-pay process that need attention. Still need help? Head over to our contact form.
